Little brown birds

It's unusually cold where I live, and today it's sleeting. I'm not going to complain about the cold, because where my brother lives it hasn't been above sub-freezing in more than a week.

In weather like this, I seem to always get a non-regular bird in my yard. Today it was a...little brown one. I see you are rolling your eyes. Little and brown describes a large number of birds. This one would not be still long enough for me to really identify it. It was smaller than average, yellow-tinged, and kind of round. Mom says (as she looks at a Ruby-crowned kinglet in her yard) that it must be a kinglet. I'm actually inclined to agree, so I'll call it that. It does match what I saw and how it behaved. So yay! Come back so I can confirm!

Meanwhile, one of the Anna's Hummingbirds is sitting in my lace-cap hydrangea looking quite miserable. I've been bringing the feeder in at night so it won't freeze, but left it out last night. It mostly froze. I did get some fresh syrup out there as quickly as possible, but I feel badly about letting it freeze.
